The boy's name was Michael Carneal. He shot eight students, killing three, at Heath High School in West Paducah, Ky. on Dec. 1, 1997. He pleaded guilty but mentally ill to murder and other charges in December 1998 and was sentenced to life in prison. In April 1999 the parents of the three students killed, filed a $130 million federal lawsuit against 25 entertainment companies, claiming their violent films influenced Carneal.
