Archbishop Rahho was kidnapped in Mosul, Iraq on February 29, 2008 after being shot in the leg on his way to Mass. The abductors killed two bodyguards and put Rahho in the trunk of their car. His church, which is a Chaldean Church called Holy Spirit Church, reported that they received a phone call from him in which he instructed them not to pay a ransom for his release. His kidnapping was one of many attacks against Christians since Saddam Hussein’s reign ended. Chaldean Church officials received a phone call telling them where the body of Archbishop Rahho could be found.
