John Charnley Biography

John Charnley was born in Lancashire, England. He studied at Manchester University and then trained at Royal Manchester Infirmary and Salford Royal Hospital. Although hip-replacement surgery had been preformed already, it usually resulted in pain. Charnley developed a better procedure that has been successful for over four decades. John Charnley died August 12, 1982.
