Patricia Bathinventor Born: November 4, 1942 Birthplace: Harlem, New York Best Known as: African-American scientist and inventor Born in Harlem, New York, Bath holds a bachelor's degree from Hunter College and an M.D. from Howard University. She is dedicated to the treatment and prevention of blindness and is a co-founder of the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness. Bath is the first African American woman doctor to receive a patent for a medical invention. She is best known for her invention of the Laserphaco Probe for the treatment of cataracts.
