British mountain climber and adventurer Rob Gauntlett fell to his death on January 11, 2009, while climbing the east face of Tacul peak in the Mont Blanc mountain range in the French Alps. Gauntlett accomplished a remarkable amount in a mere 21 years of life. At the age of 19, he became the youngest Englishman to scale Everest. Then, in 2007, he and a friend trekked from the North Pole to the South Pole using only natural—no cars, planes or motorboats—means of transport.
