Aylett HAWES, Congress, VA (1768-1833)

HAWES, Aylett, (uncle of Richard Hawes, Albert Gallatin Hawes, and Aylett Hawes Buckner), a Representative from Virginia; born in Culpeper County, Va., April 21, 1768; pursued classical studies; studied medicine and finished his education in Edinburg, Scotland; returned to Virginia and practiced medicine; also engaged as a planter; member of the State house of delegates 1802-1806; elected as a Republican to the Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Fourteenth Congresses (March 4, 1811-March 3, 1817); resumed the practice of medicine and was also an extensive landowner; died on his farm in Rappahannock County, Va., August 31, 1833; interment on a farm near Sperryville, Rappahannock County, Va.
