JONES, Owen, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born near Ardmore, Montgomery County, Pa., December 29, 1819; attended the public schools and was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia; studied law in Philadelphia; was admitted to the bar of Montgomery County May 19, 1842, and commenced practice in Ardmore, Pa.; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1857-March 3, 1859); chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Department of State (Thirty-fifth Congress); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1858 to the Thirty-sixth Congress; during the Civil War raised a troop of Cavalry (Troop B, First Pennsylvania Cavalry); resumed the practice of law; died near Ardmore, Pa., December 25, 1878; interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pa.
