Loyola University School of Law, Chicago, Ill., 1989; professor; lawyer; legislative aide; Cook County Ill. board of commissioners, 1998-2009; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Eleventh Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Rahm Emanuel, and reelected to the succeeding Congress (April 7, 2009-present).
