Eddie Redmayne is an English actor known for his many roles on screen in period pieces, including his Oscar-winning turn as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything (2014), as well as My Week with Marilyn and Les Misérables. Slight, freckled and oh-so-British, Redmayne made a splash on the London stage even before he'd graduated from Eton College in 2003. He then became a familiar face on screen as a bit player in a number of English productions, including the 2005 mini-series Elizabeth I (starring Helen Mirren). He played Matt Damon's son in The Good Shepherd (2006), an incestuous bad boy in Savage Grace (2007, opposite Julianne Moore) and had parts in Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007, starring Cate Blanchett) and Tess of the D'Urbervilles (2008, a TV mini-series), as well as a leading role in the 2010 supernatural thriller Black Death. On the stage, Redmayne won a Tony award in 2010 for his supporting role in Red, the play about artist Mark Rothko. His screen career got a boost when he stole the show in the critically acclaimed My Week with Marilyn (2011), upstaging co-star Kenneth Branagh. Redmayne then gained even more attention as Anne Hathaway's love interest in the big-screen musical production of Les Misérables, in 2012, before his big Oscar win for The Theory of Everything. He followed that film with another challenging role, as transgender pioneer Einar Wagner in The Danish Girl.
