English actress Emilia Clarke shot to fame with her first real television role, that of Daenerys Targaryan -- the Mother of Dragons -- in the cable TV version of George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones. She grew up outside of London, then studied three years at London's Drama Centre and graduated in 2009. A brief television appearance and one dinosaur TV movie later, she was cast in 2010 as the white-haired bride who goes from naif to warrior in Game of Thrones. She was nominated for an Emmy in 2013; besides Peter Dinklage, Clarke is the only cast member to earn a nomination. She has since appeared in the feature films Spike Island (2012) and Dom Hemingway (2014, as Jude Law's daughter).
