As the grandchild of President George Bush the elder, and then the daughter of President Bush the younger, Jenna was much in the public eye during her youth. She enrolled in the University of Texas in 2000, the same year her father was elected to the White House, and made headlines right away when she was cited for underage drinking in an Austin bar in April of 2001. She and her sister were cited again by police in May 2001 after attempting to buy drinks at an Austin restaurant. She seemed unfazed by the attention, and graduated from the University of Texas with an English degree in 2004. Her book Ana's Story, based on those travels, was published in 2007. She married her longtime boyfriend, Henry Hager, on 10 May 2008 in Crawford, Texas. In 2009, The Today Show announced that she would become a special correspondent for the show, while continuing to work as a teacher in Baltimore.
