The star of TV's 30 Rock

Name at birth: Elizabeth Stamatina Fey

Tina Fey is the former Saturday Night Live writer who created and starred in the television sitcom 30 Rock for seven seasons from 2006-2013. A 1992 graduate of the University of Virginia (in Charlottesville), Tina Fey began her comedy career with The Second City improvisational troupe in Chicago. She joined SNL as a writer in 1997 and eventually joined the cast, anchoring the "Weekend Update" segment and appearing in occasional sketches. Her smart-girl glasses and sideways glances added a sex appeal that landed her in men's magazines, and Fey emerged as one of SNL's brightest stars. After 2006, Tina Fey left the cast of SNL and developed the comedy 30 Rock, in which she starred as Liz Lemon, the lovable-but-hapless head writer of a TV comedy show. The show also starred Alec Baldwin (as slippery network exec Jack Donaghy) and former SNL player Tracy Morgan (as unbalanced TV star Tracy Jordan), and continued until Fey ended its run in 2013. Tina Fey returned to SNL briefly during the 2008 presidential election to do her dead-on impersonation of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Tina Fey also wrote the bestselling 2011 comic memoir Bossypants.

Extra credit:

Tina Fey married composer Jeff Richmond in 2001. They have two daughters: Alice Zenobia Richmond (b. 2005) and Penelope Athena Richmond (b. 2011)... While appearing on Saturday Night Live Fey also wrote the screenplay for the Lindsay Lohan movie Mean Girls (2004).
