Angoulême, Charles de Valois, comte d'Auvergne, duc d' (shärl du välwä' kôNt dōvern'yu dük däNgOOlem') [key], 15731650, illegitimate son of King Charles IX of France. He turned against King Henry IV, conspired with Henriette d'Entragues, his half sister, and was imprisoned until 1616. After his release he held military commands. He left memoirs.
