Caylus, Marie Marguerite, comtesse deCaylus, Marie Marguerite, comtesse de (märē märgurēt' kôNtes' du kālüs') [key], 1673–1729, French writer and actress. A noted beauty and wit, she was lauded for her performance at Saint-Cyr in Racine's Esther. Her Souvenirs (1770), edited by Voltaire, describe the court of Louis XIV with vivacity and taste.
