Chaminade, Cécile Louise Stéphanie

Chaminade, Cécile Louise Stéphanie (sāsēl' lwēz stāfänē' shämēnäd') [key], 18571944, French composer and pianist. She was a popular concert pianist and wrote many graceful, romantic piano pieces and songs. Among her more ambitious compositions are a lyric symphony, Les Amazones, and a ballet, Callirhoé (both 1888), which includes Scarf Dance.
