Chaminade, Cécile Louise StéphanieChaminade, Cécile Louise Stéphanie (sāsēl' lwēz stāfänē' shämēnäd') [key], 1857–1944, French composer and pianist. She was a popular concert pianist and wrote many graceful, romantic piano pieces and songs. Among her more ambitious compositions are a lyric symphony, Les Amazones, and a ballet, Callirhoé (both 1888), which includes Scarf Dance. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th ed.
