Gossen, Hermann HeinrichGossen, Hermann Heinrich (her'män hīn'rikh gô'sun) [key], 1810–58, German economist, little known in his lifetime. His work, Entwicklung der Gesetze des menschlichen Verkehrs und der daraus fliessenden Regeln für menschliches Handeln [development of the laws of human intercourse and their resulting rules for human behavior] (1854), anticipated the theory of marginal utility as formulated by William Stanley Jevons and others.
