Haavelmo, TrygveHaavelmo, Trygve (trüg'vu hävelmō) [key], 1911–99, Norwegian economist. In the 1940s, he was a pioneer in the field of econometrics, using mathematics and statistics in the formation of economic theories. In 1989, Haavelmo won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. He wrote A Study in the Theory of Investment (1960). The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th ed.
