ScipioneScipione (Gino Bonichi) (shēpyô'nā; jē'nō bōnē'kē) [key], 1904–33, Italian painter. Together with Mario Mafai, Scipione was a cofounder of the Roman school, an expressionist movement, in 1928. His highly personal symbolism depicts fantasy tinged with violence. Roman Courtesan (1930; Mattioli Coll., Milan) is a characteristic work. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th ed. Copyright © 2007, Columbia University Press. All rights reserved.
