cohosh

cohosh kōhŏshˈ [key], name for several plants, among them baneberry and black cohosh, a species of bugbane, both of the buttercup family; and blue cohosh, a member of the barberry family. Both families are classified in the division Magnoliophyta, class Magnoliopsida, order Ranunculales.
