Kearny

Kearny kärˈnē [key], town (1990 pop. 34,874), Hudson co., NE N.J.; inc. 1899. The town was formerly the site of textile mills that dated to the late 1800s and shipyards and dry docks that were of great significance during World War II. Transportation, delivery services, and warehousing are now important industries; products include chemicals, roofing, fabricated metal products, cleaning equipment and supplies, and other light manufactures. Kearny contains many tidal wetlands between the Passaic and the Hackensack rivers that were developed for industrial and recreational purposes. Nearby is the Meadowlands, a complex containing a racetrack and sports stadiums.
