Alatyr

Alatyr ələtĭrˈ [key], city (1989 pop. 47,000), Chuvash Republic, E European Russia, at the confluence of the Sura and Alatyr rivers. Founded in 1552, it is a river port and railroad junction with locomotive and food-processing plants.
