Enkhuizen

Enkhuizen ĕngkˈhoiˌzən [key], town, North Holland prov., N central Netherlands, a port on the IJsselmeer. It is a commercial and industrial center with shipyards. The town played an important part in the Dutch struggle for independence and was a prosperous fishing and trading center in the 17th cent. Enkhuizen has retained numerous buildings of the 16th and 17th cent.
