FaridpurFaridpur (furēd'poor) [key], town (1991 pop. 74,000), S Bangladesh. It is a district administrative center, a railway terminus, and a market town for jute and rice. It has a thermal power station and jute mills. There are five colleges affiliated with Dhaka Univ. The town is named for Farid Shah, a Muslim saint whose shrine is there.
