Karli

Karli (kär'lē) [key], village, Maharashtra state, W India. Nearby are Buddhist caves that may have been excavated as early as the 2d cent. B.C. The most famous of them measures 124 ft by 45 ft (38 m by 14 m) and is India's largest cave temple. Its ancient shrine, columns, and ornamentation survive in part.
