SlovyanskSlovyansk (sluvyänsk') [key], city (1989 pop. 135,000), E Ukraine, in the Donets Basin. It is a railroad junction and has salt and soda works. Manufactures include machinery, ceramics, and pencils. Nearby is a hot springs resort. Founded in 1676 as Tor, the city was renamed in the late 18th cent.
