Sulaimaniyah

Sulaimaniyah so͞oˌlāmänˈēə [key], town (1987 pop. 364,096), NE Iraq. The town, founded in 1789, is a trade center inhabited by Kurds and has long been a center of Kurdish nationalism. Since 1992 it has been an important town in the so-called Kurdish Autonomous Region.
