Vitry-le-FrançoisVitry-le-François (vētrē'-lu-fräNswä') [key], town (1990 pop. 17,483), Marne dept., NE France, on the Marne River. Textiles and earthenware are the chief manufactures. The town was founded by Francis I in 1545. During World War I it was the headquarters of General Joseph Joffre; in World War II the town was almost completely destroyed.
