Gyeonggi

Gyeonggi or Kyonggi gyŭngˈgēˈ [key], province, NW South Korea. Suwon is the capital. The province surrounds Seoul and Incheon and has become part of their greater industrial region, producing ships, iron, steel, and plate-glass. Agriculture still plays a big part in the economy; rice, wheat, barley, pulses, fruits, and vegetables are the chief crops. Fishing and dairy farming are also pursued. The northern part of the old Gyeonggi prov. became part of North Korea after World War II.
