actress, songwriter, and writer who starred with her husband, Roy Rogers, in several Westerns and on television's The Roy Rogers Show (1950–1957). Her big break came in 1944, when she was cast opposite John Wayne in Old Oklahoma. Evans wrote several inspirational books, including Angel Unaware, which she dedicated to her daughter, Robin, who died as a toddler of complications from Down syndrome. Died: Apple Valley, Calif., 2/7/2001
