Walter Annenberg

Age: 94

publisher, philanthropist, and art collector who presided over media empire Triangle Publications from 1942, when he inherited it from his father, until 1988, when he sold the business to Rupert Murdoch for $3.2 billion. Triangle published the Philadelphia Inquirer and TV Guide and owned several radio and TV stations. A loyal Republican, he served as ambassador to Britain under President Nixon. His art collection, valued at more than $1 billion, included works by Monet, Renoir, van Gogh, Manet, Picasso, and Rodin.

Died: Wynnewood, Pa., Oct. 1, 2002
