Floyd Landis,

cyclist, won the grueling, 2,267-mile Tour de France in July, becoming the third American to take home the trophy. Like Lance Armstrong, who won the Tour seven consecutive times, Landis overcame a seemingly insurmountable obstacle to win the race. He has a degenerative hip condition that requires a hip replacement. His victory was quickly tainted, however, when race officials said the urine sample taken after his best performance of the race showed elevated levels of testosterone. Landis denied he took any illegal substances. A second urine sample also tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone. His team, Phonak, fired him, and his Tour de France title was in jeopardy.
