Roy Moore, chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, defiantly refused to remove a 5,280-pound monument of the Ten Commandments from the state courthouse. The state supreme court and a federal judge had ruled that Moore had violated the separation of church and state when he installed the piece. Workers moved “Roy's rock” in August.
