Brewer's: Siesta

(3 syl.) means “the sixth hour”—i.e. noon. (Latin, sexta hora). It is applied to the short sleep taken in Spain during the mid-day heat. (Spanish, sesta, sixth hour; sestéar, to take a mid-day nap.)
