Jacques Amyot

Amyot, Jacques (zhäk ämyōˈ) [key], 1513–93, French humanist, translator of Heliodorus' Aethiopica (1547), of Longus' Daphnis and Chloë (1559), and particularly of Plutarch's Lives (1559).
