Sir William SmithSmith, Sir William, 1813–93, English editor and lexicographer. He was editor of the Quarterly Review from 1867 until his death and also edited reference works esteemed for their accuracy and comprehensiveness. These included dictionaries of Greek and Roman antiquities (1842), biography and mythology (1844–49), and geography (1854–57) and a dictionary of the Bible (1860–63).
