sorrel tree

sorrel tree, common name for a variety of plants, including the Australian hibiscus, Hibiscus heterophyllus, of the mallow family. The staggerbush, Lyoma mariana, and the sourwood, Oxydendrum arboreum, of the heath family, are also called sorrel tree.
