Ferguson

Ferguson, city (2020 pop. 20,359), St. Louis co., E Mo., a suburb of St. Louis; inc. 1894. It is primarily residential. In Aug. 2014, the shooting of an unarmed Black man by a local police officer lead to widespread demonstrations occurred, continuing through most of the year. The incident put the town into national news and, along with similar incidents in other cities, helped inspire the nascent Black Lives Matter movement.
