Old Lyme

Old Lyme līm [key], residential and resort town (1990 pop. 6,535), New London co., SE Conn., on Long Island Sound, at the mouth of the Connecticut River; settled c.1655, inc. 1855. Its noteworthy old houses built by sea captains have attracted many artists to the town. The Congregational Church (1817; burned in 1909, but carefully restored) has been portrayed by Childe Hassam.
