Baranagar

Baranagar (bŭrˈənəgər) [key], city (1991 pop. 223,770), West Bengal state, NE India, on the Hugli River. A suburb of Kolkata (Calcutta), it is a major industrial center, with manufactures in agricultural and industrial machinery, chemicals, castor oil, and matches; there are numerous cotton-processing industries.
