East Kilbride

East Kilbride kĭlbrīdˈ [key], town, South Lanarkshire, S central Scotland. Established in 1946 under the New Towns Act to absorb the growing population of Glasgow, East Kilbride has engineering works and manufactures automobile and aircraft engines, textiles, and electronic equipment. A center for engineering research was established there. The town also bottles milk.
