Garabogazkol

Garabogazkol kəräˌ-bəgäzˌ-gôlˈ [key], shallow bay,, in Turkmenistan. An arm of the Caspian Sea, it acts as a natural evaporation basin, drawing off the water of the Caspian and depositing salts along its shores. The drop in the Caspian water level, however, has led to its being cut off and greatly reduced in size. The town of Garabogazkol at the entrance of the bay produces chemicals, sulfates, and mirabilite.
