Ichihara (ēchēˈhärä) [key], city (1990 pop. 257,716), Chiba prefecture, central Honshu, Japan, on Tokyo Bay. Part of the Keihin Industrial Region, Ichihara has important petrochemical and steel industries. Its traditional agriculture and fishing industries have declined, in part due to air pollution.
