MatsushimaMatsushima (mätsōˈshĭmä) [key], town (1990 pop. 17,431), Miyagi prefecture, N Honshu, Japan, on Ishinomaki Bay. It is a tourist center for the hundreds of scenic pine-covered islets in the bay. One island is the site of the noted Buddhist temple of Zuiganji (founded 828).
