Nukus

Nukus (nōkōsˈ) [key], city (1989 pop. 170,362), capital of Karakalpak Republic, W Uzbekistan, in the Khwarazm oasis and on the Amu Darya River. It has alfalfa and food-processing and other light industries, as well as a notable modern art museum.
