Tiaret

Tiaret tyärāˈ [key], city (1998 pop. 145,332), NW Algeria, capital of Tiaret prov. Since Roman times it has been the center of a prosperous agricultural area. It was completely rebuilt after its capture by the French in 1843. The name also appears as Tihert.
