Trollhättan

Trollhättan (trôlˈhĕˌtän) [key], city (1990 pop. 40,180), Älvsborg co., S Sweden, on the Götaälv River near Lake Vänern. The Götaälv River, which falls 108 ft (33 m) in about 1 mi (1.6 km) at Trollhättan, is used to generate much hydroelectricity; the ready availability of electricity has helped to make the city a major industrial center. Manufactures include locomotives, metal goods, airplane engines, plastics, footwear, clothing, phosphates, and motor vehicles.
