Udagamandalam (ōˈdəgəmänˌdəläm) [key], formerly Ootacamund ōˈtəkəmŭndˌ, town (1991 pop. 81,763), Tamil Nadu state, SW India, in the Nilgiri Hills. At an altitude of c.7,000 ft (2,130 m), the town is the most famous hot-weather resort in S India and has a significant tourism industry. It is also a district administrative center and a market for tea, coffee, teak, and sandalwood. There are industries in textile manufacture and tea-processing in Udagamandalam.
