UmeåUmeå (üˈməōˌ) [key], city (1990 pop. 60,310), capital of Västerbotten co., NE Sweden, on an inlet of the Gulf of Bothnia and at the mouth of the Umeälv River; founded 1622. Manufactures of this industrial center include forest products, furniture, and machinery. Nearby Holmsund serves as its port.
