Whangarei

Whangarei hwängˌgərāˈ [key], city (1996 pop. 45,892), N North Island, New Zealand, on the Pacific Ocean. It is the leading city on the Northland Peninsula and an important port for coastal trade. There are textile mills, cement and fertilizer plants, breweries, and an oil refinery in the city.
