Woomera

Woomera wo͞oˈmərə [key], village (2016 pop. 146), South Australia, S Australia, near Lake Torrens. It is located within the large Woomera Range Complex, which includes and air force and missile-testing range used by Australia and its allies. Great Britain conducted nuclear tests in the 1950s and 1960s at Maralinga within the range complex, and Australia's first earth satellite was launched there in 1967. A U.S. space tracking station was formerly there.
